As you already know, video is an important piece of media marketing strategy. Since the dawn of television, video has been an influential part of our lives. Now that social has taken over, the power of video hasn’t changed, though the type of content we use video for, may have.

Google+ Hangouts is a free video chat service from Google that enables both one-on-one chats and group chats with up to ten people at a time.   While somewhat similar to Skype, FaceTime and Facebook Video Chat, Google Hangouts focuses more on "face-to-face-to-face" group interaction as opposed to one-on-one video chats, and utilizes sophisticated technology to seamlessly switch the focus to the person currently chatting.

Google Hangouts can be accessed via laptop and desktop computers as well as with Android mobile devices (Android "Gingerbread" v2.3 and later) and, in the near future, iOS-powered mobile devices.  In addition to video chatting, Google Hangouts users can share documents, scratchpads, images and YouTube videos with other users.   Google+ Hangouts also offers a "Hangouts on Air" feature for broadcasting live video conversations that are accessible to anyone with a web browser.

Hangouts can make communication easier and save you money. Because it’s simple and easy to use, it doesn’t have high production costs. You can also publish your videos to YouTube, making it easy to display your video to your audience.

Here are some ways you can use Google Hangouts to facilitate operations in your business…

Company Meetings

Many companies either have remote employees now or have customers in other parts of the company. Save time and money by meeting online using Google+ Hangouts. The money you save on that flight to Tokyo is worth consideration in itself.

How many networking groups do you belong to? It’s important to network. You establish relationships with like-minded individuals and build crucial contacts that drive more business.  It’s a time and financial commitment though. Most networking meetings happen during a meal (breakfast, lunch, or dinner). You have the option to pass on a food purchase, however, it’s likely that you feel obligated to buy. Also most networking groups have a membership fee. The meetings usually last 1-2 hours, and don’t forget to add in your drive time. Plug in your hourly rate, these meetings become very costly.

Why not network online? With Hangouts this is easy. Save the drive time, the subscription fees, and the cost for food without the need to leave your office.

Perhaps you are a food blogger or a renowned chef. Cooking demonstrations using hangouts is a great way to show off your expertise. Perhaps you have a product that you can demonstrate over video?

Product Review

If you own a retail store, a great way to show off the products you sell is though a video product review. Grab a product off the shelf and give a comprehensive review using video.

Use the power of video to teach others about the expertise you’ve gained in your field. Yes, you are giving away information that customers could pay for, but on the other hand you are establishing yourself as an expert on the subject. The “do-it-yourselfers” will find a way to do it themselves anyway, and the folks that figure out it’s too much work for them will feel comfortable enough with your skills to contact you.

Press Conference

Got something new and exciting to announce? Press Releases on video are a personal touch to the traditional write-up.

Job Interview

Use Google Plus Hangouts to quickly find applicants and interview them…

Customer Service

+Michael Dell, Chairman and CEO of Dell, recently asked his followers if they were interested in connecting with the Dell sales team via hangouts, and the answer was a resounding "YES!" It's a great way to increase customer engagement, and put a human face to your company or corporation. Think about the possibilities - your sales team could explain and show your product directly to a customer, and walk them through the entire process from browsing to purchase.

Video production doesn’t have to be this big glamorous ordeal. You don’t need a full production team to produce quality video that sells. You can also use it as a tool for internal communication. How are you using video? Are you considering using Hangouts in the future?
