In recent articles I’ve written about the importance of Facebook and Twitter for business. I also spoke to the fact that you don’t need to be on every network. If you haven’t tried Google+ for your business yet, you may want to start now. Here’s a few reasons why…
Google+ is Good for Business, in More Ways than One
Google+ is gaining market share.
To be honest, we weren’t onboard with Google+ initially. But things have changed. Many people have joined the bandwagon and through the use of communities, it is easy to connect with people in your industry.
In January 2013, Google+ has passed Twitter and is now the second-biggest social platform worldwide with 343 million active users.
Google is rolling out updates which will begin the process of transferring business from Places to Google+ Local. As a result, it will make the process: easier to use, faster updates, and integration with AdWords and G+. Google Local will help you get found by people in your area. Think of it like a local search.
If you are a brick and mortar store, it is imperative that you at least signup with an account and get listed on Google+ Local
Authorship is going to play a big part in Google search engine rankings. Authorship attaches the articles you write to your Google+ account. Using this data, Google will be able to find out how popular your articles are on the internet, thereby compiling how you rank as a content creator. The more articles you are connected to, the better. Google will recognize you as an authority in your niche based on the content you have claimed and how each piece of linked content has performed on social media networks (tweets, likes, +1’s, etc.). Additionally this will help improve your search results. This is especially true for your immediate network, the people you are connected to on Google+.
To start your authorship account…
- 1.Create a Google+ Profile and upload a high quality headshot and fill out the profile information.
- 2.Go to plus.google.com/authorship, sign up with your email and click on the verification link that Google will send you.
Google+1’s benefit your search engine rankings in a big way. As an example, we were working with a client a while back and I +1’ed their new website. When I Google searched them for reference, they were listed on the 1st page. I called them to start the celebration, only to have the wind taken out of my sail when they told me that they weren’t seeing the same results. When I logged out of Google+, they weren’t listed until page 6. This is quite telling that those +1’s make a big different in search results.
