Tips For Creating A Content Calendar For Social Media Marketing Y Marketing Matters

We know and understand that there is a myriad of choices out there when it comes to social networks.  Some businesses are on 1 or 2 only and yet others are on 7 or 8.  Regardless of how many you are on being engaged is what is important to a successful presence on social media.  Please note that I did not say campaign because campaigns are for only a set portion of time and social media marketing is always going and always on.


If you are not producing top notch content and responding to requests and engaging in conversation your social media marketing will be unsuccessful, but how do you manage to produce top notch content day after day.  That’s right, content needs to be produced day after day.  Facebook’s EdgeRank shows that the more people see your content the more is shared and thus a higher visibility.


Back to the question about producing top notch content day after day.  There is inspiration all around us to allow us to provide content to our followers on a daily basis but it is a matter of capturing it and saving it for a later date.  Trying to create content every morning will product un-due stress and this is where a content calendar comes into play.


First set up a calendar specific to, and only for, content to publish.  This will allow you to focus on one thing and one thing only:  quality content.  If you have business meetings and personal appointments in this calendar as well the content creation will undoubtedly get lost.  After you have established a specific calendar think about what will attract customers.  What is your target market interested in and then start filling out a calendar.


The calendar should have variation to it.  You want to post pictures with a question to Facebook on one day and then maybe an open-ended blank statement to Twitter the next day.  Whatever you decide to do make sure that you keep it consistent.  The Sonix Studio content calendar contains monthly blog posts about certain topics.  This keeps us on our toes in terms of looking for material to write about while also not burdening us with having to create content regarding that subject matter on a daily basis.


Once you lay out the calendar and have it set to your liking begin your posting and once you post put a strikethrough the posted content.  You will have a feeling of satisfaction of having accomplished a task and simultaneously giving you a look as to what type of content lay ahead of you.  If you have the opportunity to schedule content into the future because you are inspired then do so and cross it off the calendar.  Make sure everyday has a task that has been completed and you will be posting to various social networks with consistency and be able to engage potential clients in conversation.


My last tip is to put a To-Do for making the next month’s calendar at least one week prior to that month.  Today is April 24th and I have a note on our calendar to create the May content calendar on Friday April 26th.  This gives us the time to research, create and develop blog posts, tweets, Facebook posts etc without feeling any pressure to get it done.
